  TALENSI MP VISITS CONSTITUENCY

Hon. John Tia, MP for Talensi has inspected projects he had initiated in his constituency. The projects included educational, health, agriculture and social service facilities.

At Kpatia, the MP inspected a classroom block which he is rehabilitating, and a four-room clinic and a nurse's quarters. The clinic serves more than 8,000 people in four communities. Speaking to the Graphic in an interview, Hon. Tia said he identified lack of potable water as the major problem facing the people in the area.

At Pwalugu, he was conducted round the health center by the midwife in charge of the facility. She mentioned the problem acute shortage of water which, she said, was scaring many health workers from accepting posting to the place.

The MP also inspected the construction of a three-classroom block at Tindongo, which was jointly being put up by the District Assembly, the GETFUnd and himself. He said the block would be ready for use by September 2005. He also inspected a teachers quarters which is being constructed at Duusi at a cost of ¢271 million.

Hon Tia said he, in conjunction with a non-governmental organization, Rural Aid, was building a well for residents of Tindongo at the cost of ¢22 million.

The MP then appealed to government to offer the people of Duusi some food aid since the residents were yet to recover from a severe drought that had hit the area. He also appealed to the District Assembly and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to come to the aid of the people of Tongo-Beo, since a dam in the area which was used to enhance tomato production had collapsed.

Touching on roads in his constituency, Hon. Tia expressed dissatisfaction about the deteriorating state of the 15-kilometer Zuarungu-Kpatia-Tindongo road which he said had not seen any rehabilitation since 1995. He also reminded the Minister of Road Transport to fulfil his promise to tar the Winkogo-Tongo road.
