ING. MATTHEW ADOMBIRE attended Sumbrungo Local Council Primary School from 1958-1963 and Sumbrungo Urban Council Middle School from1963-1967. He proceeded to St. Charles Lwanga Lay Apostle Institute where he trained as a Roman Catholic Catechist from 1967-1969. His “O” and “A” Level courses were undertaken from 1969-1974 and 1974-1976 at Notre Dame Minor Seminary Secondary School and Tamale Secondary School respectively. From 1976-1980 he pursued a B.Sc. (Civil Engineering) Degree course at the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.

He performed his National Service with Upper Region Agricultural Programme (URADEP) and GWSC, Upper Region from November 1980 to August1981 after which he joined the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation. Mr. Adombire has worked in the water supply industry since graduating as a Civil Engineer from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana in July 1980. He held various positions as Distribution Engineer, Project Engineer in the then Upper Region and Regional Engineer in Central, Eastern and Ashanti Regions. At the GWSC Head Office, he was the Head of Planning and Research and Acting Director of Planning and Development from 1992 to 1996.

He obtained his Master of Engineering Degree in Water Resources Development from the University of Roorkee in India in 1986 and has pursued a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He has also attended Management courses in Ghana and Sweden. Mr. Adombire served on the Management Boards of Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI), Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA), Water Research Institute (WRI), Council of Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE), and National Project Steering Committee of the District Capacity Building Project (DISCAP). He is a Corporate Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers and a Fellow of the International Centre for Research and Training in Major Projects Management, Canada.

He is the Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited for the Tema Region and held similar position for the Upper East, Northern and Accra East Regions of the GWCL. He is married with three children.
