8th National Delegates Congress (2012) – Communiqué

We of BONABOTO (a non-political civil society organization involving people of Bolgatanga, Nangode, Bongo, and Tongo and their environs) of the Upper East Region, at our 8th National Congress, having deliberated extensively on the theme: “FOSTERING COLLABORATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE UPPER EAST REGION”, do hereby issue this Communiqué:

Recognizing that BONABOTO itself has a very important role to play in the development of the BONABOTO area in particular and the region as a whole;

Further recognizing the need to identify and collaborate with other key stakeholders in the area and Region to address our developmental challenges;

In the spirit of this collaboration,

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the President for winning the mandate of Ghanaians on the basis of his demonstrable appreciation of the numerous developmental needs and wishing to fully collaborate with him in the execution of the mandate reposed on him by the Ghanaian electorate.

Congratulate all Members of Parliament of the Upper East Region especially those of the BONABOTO Area for obtaining the people’s mandate while drawing their attention to the common and numerous challenges facing the region, and call on them to work together to address these challenges, irrespective of their political affiliation.

We now therefore:

  1. Call on the government to complete the rehabilitation of the Bolgatanga Central Hospital and to fulfill its promise of providing a regional referral hospital in Bolgatanga;
  2. .
  3. Impress on the government to provide additional Colleges of Education, Senior High Schools and Nurses Training Institutions in the region to ensure regional balance;
  4. .
  5. Further call on the government to provide separate Public Universities for the Upper East and Upper West Regions;
  6. .
  7. Urgently appeal to the government to, as a matter of urgency, provide Bolgatanga, the regional capital, which has very deplorable roads with good motorable and access roads and link it with all its district capitals;
  8. .
  9. Appreciating the effort of the government to close the developmental gap between the north and south by implementing the SADA initiative, we request that representations on the SADA Board and Top Management be regionally balanced.
  10. .

Finally, we recognize that lack of justice and equity are the key factors that lead to conflicts and the slow pace of development, although these have often been overshadowed by political rivalries, chieftaincy conflicts, land disputes and migration. We therefore call on the government to ensure equity and justice in promoting development.

Issued this 1st Day of January 2013.
