BONABOTO Donates Laptops to Institutions In UER
BONABOTO, in collaboration with a United Kingdom philanthropist, Madam Alice Redfearn, in February 2012, donated 75 computers to selected institutions in the Upper East Region.
The Talensi-Nabdam District Directorate of Education benefited from 58 laptops, the Bolgatanga Municipal Information Communication Centre, 15 and BONABOTO Secretariat, two computers.
Presenting the items to the beneficiary institutions at District Directorate of Education at Tongo, the Upper East Regional Chairman of BONABOTO, Mr Dedacus Afegrah, indicated that the items were provided through the support of Madam Alice Redfearn who had worked at the Talensi-Nabdam District Directorate of Education before leaving for the United Kingdom while the shipment cost was incurred by BONABOTO, UK Branch.
The Regional Chairman stated that BONABOTO considered education as crucial to reducing poverty, diseases and ignorance and said based on that, in 2010 the UK branch of the BONABOTO secured 100 computers which were distributed to Kongo, Bongo, and Zuarungu Senior High Schools, the Regional Library and the Nursing Training College among others.
Mr Afegrah said the group had also established an educational endowment fund and the money invested and the proceeds used to sponsor students in Senior High Schools and Tertiary Institutions and appealed to others to contribute to the Fund.
He also announced that last year, BONABOTO secured 2000 grafted mangoes from Kintampo which were distributed to communities including Bolgatanga, Bongo, Tongo and Nabdam.
“In addition, BONABOTO mediates and resolves conflicts in the region. BONABOTO mediated to resolve the Bukere-Soe conflict that occurred some years back”.
Mr Afegrah said BONABOTO had also fought for the Gurune language to be made examinable at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The Talensi-Nabdam District Director of Education, Mr Faara Joachim, said the computers would help enhance the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the area.
Mrs Vivian Anafo, Talensi-Nabdam District Chief Executive, thanked the donors and said it would complement government’s efforts at tackling the needs of students in the field of ICT.
She said the District Assembly had established an ICT centre and plans were far advanced to furnish the place.
